Your Story
A course catered towards those looking to either travel abroad for work, study or leisure. This course will provide the important foundations involved in travelling to China or any Mandarin speaking country.

COURSE
Class Details
A beginner's course in the Mandarin, allowing you to take advantage of opportunities within an ever globalising world, This course will give you a solid foundation for your understanding in Mandarin, allowing you to understand and reciprocate essential activities in Chinese. This course is geared towards people with little to no previous in Mandarin and will create an understanding for which you are then able to either further your Chinese Language understanding or will allow you to utilise this understanding to perform better whether that be in a work or personal environment.

- Each term will consist of 12 classes

- 3rd October - 19th December 2020

This course will run 24 weeks with a 2 hour session per week. These sessions are taken at the IIB building which is located right next to town hall station.
Course Fees
$ 432 per term
The course consists of 2 terms

Course Structure
Within each term, City Mandarin incorporates different cultural experiences relating to the Chinese culture to create a more interactive learning environment. These cultural experiences have been selected to provide an increased understanding and appreciation of the Chinese language.

The course will run for 24 weeks in which there are 12 units to the course, teachers will aim to finish 1 unit every 2 weeks.
​
The course will require minimum 5 students to run and will have a maximum of 15 students per class.

Unit 1 (Transportation)
- Learn the common expressions for taking a taxi
- Learn the common expressions for taking a bus
- Learn the numbers 0 - 10

Unit 2 (Checking In)
- Learn to how to make self - introduction
- Learn the common expressions for checking in
- Learn the common experiences for booking a room
- Learn the numbers 11-20
​
Unit 3 (Room Facilities)
- Learn the common expressions for hotel service
- Learn to ask for help in the hotel room
- Know the names of room facilities

Unit 4 (Arranging Daily Activities)
- Learn how to tell time
- Learn how to say the days of the week
- Know how to inquire about the arrangement of daily activities

Unit 5 (Asking the way)
- Learn the common expressions for asking directions
- Learn the basic words for locations
​
Unit 6 (Booking a Ticket)
- Learn how to insure about and express dates
- Learn how to book a ticket
​
Unit 7 (Shopping)
- Learn the common expressions for shopping
- Learn the common expressions for bargaining
- Learn the common expressions for selecting items
- Learn the terms for RMB: Yuan or Kuai

Unit 8 (Exchanging Money)
- Learn the common expressions for exchanging money in the bank
- Learn how to express the exchange rate
- Learn the terms for RMB: Kuai, Mao, Fen

Unit 9 (Asking for Help)
- Learn the common expressions for asking for help in emergencies
- Learn how to describe lost property

Unit 10 (Dining)
- Learn the common expressions for ordering food
- Learn how to make requests for food
- Learn how to pay the bill

Unit 11 (Health)
- Learn how to inquire about and describe one's health
- Learn some words about the human body
​
Unit 12 (Mailing a letter)
- Learn the common expressions for mailing
- Learn the basic format of a Chinese letter
